Testing Realities and Investigating Lifestyles (TRAILS)

Applications received late or incomplete may be denied due to depletion of annual funding limitations.

Family and Child Education Program

Elderly Center-Reserve Site

The LCO Reserve Nutrition Site is the central poiont in LCO for Elders. Coordination with the Natural Caregivers, volunteers, and other service agencies is one of the main functions. The mission is to provide elders options to make their own choices and providing nutritional, care giving services while utilizing cultural traditions. A priority is to maintain the present level of services in the congregate and home delivered meals, information and assistance, benefit specialist services, and a health clinic at the center once a month. There are also many planned social activities at the center that the elders are very receptive of.

Foster Grandparents/Senior Companions

The Foster Gransparents and Senior Companions are funded through the Great Lakes Inter Tribal Council. Foster Grandparents and Senior Companions provide companionship and wisdom to tribal youth and homebound elders. Activities of the Grandparents and Companions are varied. Grandparents go to the local schools and sometimes read to the students, tutor, or offer a simple hug. Companions go into homebound elders’ homes and help them with light chores, provide transportation, letter writing for them or just sit and visit.

Honoring Our Children With a Healthy Start

The Legal Department serves the Tribal Governing Board and many of the tribe’s departments, programs, and businesses. The department consists of one full time in house attorney. The attorney practices in a wide variety of areas including gaming, contracts, employment, taxation, historic preservation, child welfare, environmental law and real estate. The attorney is also the tribal prosecutor in Tribal Court. The attorney does not represent individual tribal members.

Oakwood Haven works with women and men that are in domestic or sexual assault situations and with children who have been assaulted or have witnessed domestic or sexual assault situations. There is a 24-hour crisis line and on-call staff on duty after regular business hours. Shelter services include the victim and children. Eligibility criteria: Domestic and sexual violence services are geared to work with the victim and his/her children. Our services are intended for the Native American populations within Wisconsin but is also open to non-Native Americans as well who reside within Sawyer County. Programs under LCO Oakwood Haven are: Adult Victims Domestic and Sexual Violence Intervention Program (DASVIP). Domestic and Sexual Violence Victims Shelter Elder Abuse Advocacy. Child Victims Child Physical and Sexual Abuse Victims Advocacy, Child Abuse Investigation Services, 48 Hour Crisis Shelter Services for Displaced Children.

Fire Departments

The Community Fire Department is a fully operational fire department. It is staffed with two full-time fire fighters and one administrative assistant as well as additional volunteer firefighters. The three fire stations house fire department equipment for faster response time to the different communities. In addition to responding to fire calls, volunteers also have the emergency medical training to assist the injured.

LCO 401 (k) Plan

The LCO 401 (k) Plan is an employee benefit, which allows you to set aside, via payroll deductions, a portion of your pay in a tax sheltered retirement fund. A tax sheltered fund is one in which you do not pay any taxes on your contributions, therefore, reducing your income taxes. Plus, your investments grow tax free until you make withdrawals from the plan. In addition, your employer provides match money to your personal contribution. There are a variety of investments to choose from and the amount you contribute is flexible.  Eligibility:  Full time employees.  There are no age requirements and you may join on the date you were hired.  All seasonal employees who work less than six (6) months per year are not eligible, unless they are employed by LCO Development or LCO Housing.  In addition, any employee who is employed by LCO Schools and who chooses to participate in the Tax Sheltered Annuity are not eligible for the LCO 401(k) Plan.
